You Are An Ambassador!
Michelle and I recently were guests at a very luxurious dinner. Seated at our table were several important people. The man (Bob) and his wife seated next to me introduced themselves. The man was a lawyer who had served as a United States Ambassador in a foreign country. He had been appointed by a former U S President to serve in this country for several years. We all enjoyed a nice dinner and then went our separate ways.
Being slow witted as I am sometimes, I didn’t until sometime later think about what I SHOULD have said. When the man introduced himself as an ambassador to the country of (We will call the country “Larryland”) I should have said – “Just Larryland? And you were appointed by only a President” This would not be to diminish the great accomplishment of Bob, but to show him that there are greater callings.
When he looked at me in confusion, I could have declared that I (Actually all Christians) am an ambassador to the whole world. And that I was appointed by God. II Corinthians 5:20 declares: “We are ambassadors for Christ as though God were making an appeal through us;”
An ambassador is defined as: “an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.” When a person gets saved, they become an ambassador for Christ. We are to represent Christ in a powerful way wherever He sends us. We are to make His appeal of salvation to everyone we encounter.
You may be born in America and be considered an American. But when you get saved the Bible says that you are “Born Again” so your ultimate citizenship is in Heaven. Thus, you are now an ambassador to the whole world. You are also accredited by God through the forgiveness of you sins by the shedding of the blood of Jesus.
What an honor and privilege to be an ambassador for God. We must live a Godly life in order to always represent God well. God empowers us and equips us with the Holy Spirit. As we die to our selfish selves and allow the Holy Spirit to live through us, it is easy for others to see HIM shining through us. We show others His love, peace, grace, and mercy.
The question is, are we doing our best as an ambassador for Christ? Are people drawn to Christ by what they see and hear in our life or are they repelled away from him? The Bible says that we will be known by our fruits. So let’s be doing all that we can to represent Christ the best that we can and allow Him to shine through us. In love with Jesus – Gary Mimbs
