“God Isn’t Sick”

Recently I had a bad case of COVID-19. I had a minor case of it back in 2022. But this time Covid was s bugger bear. With a low-grade fever and chills, headache, constant cough, throwing up, and other various symptoms, I suffered a miserable 5 days. I missed work and had to get someone else to preach for me. At one point I told Jesus that I was coming to see Him because I just knew that I wasn’t going to make it through the night.

When you think about a situation like that this illness puts you out of commission as you are incapacitated. I contrast that with God. He never takes a sick day- He doesn’t even take a nap. He is always available 24/7 365 days a year. His mind never wanders and He doesn’t lose focus. His prayer line has no “hold” button for Him to put us on. And He never takes a vacation. He is always available.

Yet so many times we treat Him like He is sickly incapacitated, or even like He is dead or doesn’t care about us. This can take the form of us ignoring Him and trying to run our own lives instead of asking Him for direction or guidance. Or it may be in the form of not trusting Him that He hears us when we do pray. So we take over the reins and try to solve all the problems on our own.

Some people reason that God is too busy to care about this little problem in my life. He has bigger things to tend to than my issues. So I will just take of this and not “bother” God with it. We usually wind up frustrated, exhausted, and weary because – some problems in life we can’t solve. THEN we come to God in prayer asking for His help. It bothers God more that we don’t ask Him FIRST than it does that we have wrestled with a problem that He could solve very easily.

When we finally do bring this issue to God, He says, “Great. Now that you have released it, I can do great and mighty things that you don’t even know about” I have been right here the whole time that you have been struggling with it. I have been waiting for you to release it so that I can release my power over it. You actually, with your struggles, have been blocking me from taking over.”

An old hymn says, “What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer”
God is alive and well. He wants to help us with our burdens. Call on Him FIRST and you can avoid a lot of struggling ,frustration, and conflict by allowing Him to fight our battles for us.
