Immanuel – God is with us.
One of the names of Jesus is Immanuel which means God is with us. What a powerful statement. The God who created the whole universe is with us. Sinful, selfish us and He wants to be with us. Sometimes we don’t want to be with others and even deeper is that sometimes we don’t even want to be with ourselves. Yet, God always wants to be with us. He loves us that much. He doesn’t love our sin but He always loves us and wants to fellowship with us.
It’s always a wonderful thing when you know that you are truly loved and that others want to be with you. That is the Immanuel spirit that we need to create in our lives and in our churches. One of the greatest things that we can do as Christians (Little Christs) is to love people into the Kingdom of God. We need to show everyone the selfless Agape love that Jesus shows.
We need to be known as the people that love everyone. When we look at people with Agape eyes, we don’t see color, a person’s past, their economic or social status, or even how they dress or act. We should see everyone as a pre-Christian. We need to let them know that Immanuel – God can be with them.
Immanuel means that God is with us through the good times and the bad. He promised to never leave us – even when things get messy and times get rough. I once had a chief in the police department that in a city I worked in tell us officers that He and the city would be with us when we made the right choices. But if we made the wrong choices we were on our own as He nor the city would back us up.
One officer spoke up and said that when we did the right thing, we didn’t need him to back us up. It was only when we had made a mistake that we needed him and the city to have our back. Jesus is with us and he rejoices when we do the right thing. But He also still loves us and helps us when we make wrong choices. Not only is He with us He loves us enough to help us make the wrongs right.
I hope that you and your family have an Immanuel Christmas and experience in a very real way God being with you. In love with Jesus –
