Looking Through A Different Pair Of Glasses
Being born and raised in GA I thought that I had heard every southern expression that there was. But someone the other day in talking about someone said, “They look at the world through a different pair of glasses” The person who said it went on to explain that this person that they were talking about wasn’t a Christian so their views on moral things was quite different from a Christian’s view.
I thought about the statement and my first thought was, “Thank God that when He saved me, He made me a new creation with a new way of looking at things” He helps me see things with Spirit filled eyes so that I can see things as HE sees them – not as I see them. His vision of people and circumstances is through eyes of love, compassion, mercy, and grace. My vision is more selfish, and is often lacking the attributes of God.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” So the more that I allow God to purify my heart the better I will see Him. And the better that I see Him the purer that my heart will become. So many times, I allow myself to see the impure things of this world instead of intentionally seeking the pure Word of God. I am not talking about that I view porn or things like that. I mean that many times I choose good things over the best things.
I may choose to watch a TV show that only has a little cussing in it instead of reading a good Christian book. I may put on the glasses to judge a person who has tattoos or piercings instead of getting to know the person and what is in their heart. We must remember I Samuel 16:7 “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
So we must intentionally put on the God’s view pair of glasses each day. Just like a regular pair of glasses is designed to correct our physical vision weakness, the God’s view glasses will help us correct our Spiritual vision. We sing a song with a line in it that says, “Open the eyes of my heart Lord. Open the eyes of my heart. I want to SEE you. I want to SEE you. To see you high and lifted up– shining in the light of your glory” That’s the kind of glasses that I want.
Finally, Hebrews 12:14 says, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” I need to make every effort to pursue holiness and live at peace with everyone so that I can see the Lord. I can never do that on my own. So I must have God’s help, His glasses, to see people the way that He sees them in order to live at peace with them.
I want to see Him face to face one day when I die and go to Heaven. For that to happen then I must pursue peace with everyone down here and try to love a holy life so that others will see Him in me and through me. God, please give me the view through your set of glasses. Because I can never see myself and others the way that I should without your glasses on the eyes of my heart.
