Magnify The Lord
This time of the year is hunting season. Many hunters are pursuing squirrels, deer, ducks, doves and various other wildlife species. For those who are hunting deer most every hunter has a rifle scope on their firearm. The purpose of this scope is to magnify the animal that you are looking at. The magnification power of the scope brings the image of the animal that is far away up closer so that you can see it better. (The scope doesn’t bring the animal closer just the image of it)
By bringing the image of the deer closer you can now decide if it is a deer that you want to harvest or let it walk. It also allows you to change the power of the scope to bring the image even closer to help your aim and ensure a good shot so that the animal will not suffer. The scope also gives a clearer image of the deer and the surrounding area it is standing in so you can see any obstacles such as tree limbs or vines that might deflect your shot.
When you are looking at a deer through a rifle scope you stay focused on the target that you plan on shooting. You get laser focused on the animal and where you want the bullet to hit. There may be 5 deer standing there but you focus on the one that you want to shoot. You don’t even look at the other 4 once you have made up your mind which one to aim at.
Oh that we would use our spiritual scope to magnify the Lord. We should focus on Him so intently that we bring His image as close to us as possible. We should desire to see Him so clearly that we sing that wonderful hymn, “Open the eyes of my heart Lord. Open the eyes of my heart – I want to see you. I want to see you high and lifted up– shining in the light of your glory” We should focus on Him so strongly that distractions and obstacles are removed from our sight.
Psalms 34:3 encourages us to, “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.” When we use our spiritual vision to draw Jesus closer to us it is for the purpose to EXALT Him. That means to make Him higher and grander than anything else in our life. So take your spiritual scope and draw Him in close to you and make Him so real that you feel like you can reach out and touch Him. The closer that you make Jesus to you the better that you know and love Him.
