The Snow Globe
I wanted to share an illustration that I used in our Pastor- Children’s moment that we have every Sunday. I took a beautiful snow globe and talked to the children about how beautiful the scene was inside. I kept on talking about it and finally one of the children said, “You gotta shake it up to make the snow go”.
There are a couple of lessons here. First, most of us want to stay in a safe world covered by a dome to keep all the bad stuff out. We want to be allowed to enjoy life in the comfort and safety of the dome over us. God is our shield and protector and He covers us with His love and protection.
But sometimes to get us out of our comfort zone, laziness, same old same old routine, God will shake us up. He may even turn our world upside down. He will stir us up for the beauty of our faith inside of us to shine through the stirring. Just like the snow makes the globe more beautiful as it falls back into place – what we do through the shaking can be beautiful as God puts us back perfectly.
Jesus promised His disciples in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”. Jesus is saying that your world may get shaken but I am with you and I have overcome anything that you will face. He is also saying that during the shaking and stirring shine like new falling snow because He has overcome the world and I will put your world back together for my Glory.
In a snow globe the beautiful scenery doesn’t change when the globe is shaken or turned upside down – just the atmosphere around the scenery. Don’t let being shaken or your world turning upside down change the beauty of who you are in Christ Jesus. Remain with a strong faith and hope within you and trust Him that what you are experiencing is temporary and He can and will change the atmosphere of what is going on around you. Because He has overcome the world and you are His child, you can be a victor not a victim.
