Have you ever seen a child and some adults who have to take bad-tasting medicine? There is the resisting and the putting it off, not to mention the awful faces that we make. Even though we know that the medicine will help make us well, we still hate even the thought of taking the medicine that tastes so bad.
Some more mature adults like me can remember Castor Oil, Black Drought, and a concoction called 666. (That ought to tell you right there that it was from the Devil himself). And it wasn’t just the tastes. I am sure that many people remember the stings of Myricanone, Merthiolate, and Iodine when you got a cut. Sometimes the cure seemed worse than the ailment.
The Bible says that we, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” So we are infected with sin sickness. Sin sickness can be treated but we must be willing to go to the Great Physician (Jesus) who died so that we could be forgiven and healed of our sin sickness.
The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53:5 that “…by His (Jesus’) stripes we are healed.” When Jesus was beaten with a whip and it left stripes upon His back it was so that the penalty of OUR sins could be paid for. Jesus went to the cross and took the awful medicine for us so that we could be healed of sin sickness. His beatings and crucifixion were far greater in agony than our taking a bad-tasting medicine or feeling the sting of an antiseptic applied to a cut.
The Bible tells us that all of the misery, anguish, pain, and even the wrath of God was poured out on Jesus when He was on the cross. Jesus took all of this for us because it is the remedy for sin sickness. It not only pays the price for our sins but heals the wounds that sin can cause. Those wounds are more in our hearts, minds, and spirits, more than our physical bodies although physical pain can come as a result of sinful deeds.
So if you are suffering from sin sickness then take your case to the greatest Doctor in the universe – Doctor Jesus. He has the cure and He has paid an enormous price for us to have it. The definition of a fool is a person who knows that they are sick and refuses to take the cure.
As the old joke goes a guy said that he broke his arm in 3 places. His friend told him that if he was him, he would stay out of those places. Some of our wounds are self-inflicted because we keep on going back to the same things or people who cause us pain. Be wise and not only take the cure for sin sickness from Dr. Jesus but take His prescription of guidance to keep you safe from harm.
