I received a call from a young lady who I sin our church saying that her father had been in an automobile accident. She advised that he wasn’t hurt but it was a real bad wreck with possible fatalities. When I asked her where the wreck was located, she told me a name – Linwood. She said that it was near her parents’ home. I decided to go to the wreck and check on our church member and pray for those involved.
I entered the name Linwood she had given me on the GPS and it said that there was no such street. About that time, I got a call from another church member telling me about the wreck and saying that he was going to the scene at Linwood. So I started driving in the general area toward the home of our church member who was in the wreck – still not sure where I was going.
Suddenly I saw the man who had called me who told me that he was going to the wreck go past me on an adjacent street.. I turned and followed him to the wreck site. He led me straight to the wreck. I was able to pray with our church member and the driver of one of the other vehicles involved.
When I mentioned to the young lady who called me that I couldn’t find Linwood on the GPS she laughed and said that everyone called this intersection Linwood because the old school there that had been torn down was the Linwood School. I was sure glad that I spotted my other church member enroute to the wreck scene and that I could follow him because he had been there before and he knew the way.
On our journey to Heaven, we need to make sure that we are following someone who knows the way. Jesus said In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the (only) way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”. If we try to follow any other way but Jesus, we will not make it. Many people try and follow religion, or a certain religious leader thinking that they will wind up in Heaven. We must follow the one who has been there before and knows the way.
As a pastor I try and point people to the right way to make it to Heaven when they die. But I AM NOT the way. I only point people to the One who IS the only way. Many people want to go their own selfish way and cling to the false hope that they will make it to Heaven because they are a good person, or their grandfather was a preacher, and the list goes on and on. But we must fully understand that these things will NOT get us to Heaven.
Follow Jesus and His directions found in His roadmap (The Bible) and you will wind up in Heaven. Even better is to ask Him daily to take you by the hand and lead you each day. If you hold onto His hand each day you will wind up in Heaven.
