“With Friends Like This You Don’t Need Any Enemies…”
*This story is just two friends picking at each other and not to be taken series as far as the threats of violence included in it”
Me and one of my good friends and fishing buddy were talking the other day. He has had a lot of health concerns and hasn’t been able to fish recently. He said that he had so much wrong with himself that he was dragging. I told him that he was getting like an old horse that was broken down and that we would have to take him out and shoot him.
He replied that because he used to be a correctional officer and some of the things that he had done in his life, that there would be a long list of people who would want to fire the fatal shot at him. I replied that we could sell raffle tickets and draw out a name to be the one to fire at him.
I also told him that if I happen to have the winning ticket then I would only shoot him in the leg and wound him so that we could have another raffle and raise more money. (Keep in mind that we are picking at each other and are not serious)
I also asked him if I could have his boat after he was shot. He said that he would rig it with dynamite so that the first time that I used it I would join him in Heaven. I told him thanks for the warning and that I would get the boat and take out the dynamite and sell it to someone else.
We went on and on like this picking at each other. That is what friends do – or at least the twisted friends that I have. He told me, “With friends like you I don’t need any enemies” The reality is that we would do anything in the world for one another.
In all seriousness the Bible reminds us that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. We used to sing, “What a friend we have in Jesus” And Jesus was called “A friend of sinners” and that is because in John 15:13 we read, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. Even more awesome is that not only did Jesus lay down His life with His blood to cover the sins of His friends but also His enemies also. His forgiveness of our sins is what turns His enemies into not only His friends – but His now new members of God’s family.
As friends down here we may fail and disappoint one another. But Jesus will NEVER FAIL you. He will do everything that He can for you and will encourage you. As a friend down here on Earth, I am limited in what I can do to help my friends. But Jesus is unlimited in His love, mercy, grace, power, and concern for you. You can trust Him to be at work doing things to bless you and not cure you.
So If you haven’t made Jesus your best friend as your savior and Lord, then you are missing out. He will never get tired of you and abandon you. Make Him your best friend today. In love with Jesus – Gary Mimbs
