“You Are Dying”

You Are Dying

One of the joys of my day is to get to pray with my wife in the morning and at night before we go to bed. Sometimes if there are other things that come up, we will pray during the day also. One morning she asked me to lead the morning prayer and being in a preacher’s voice mood I guess I said, “Lord please bless Michelle all the days of her life here on Earth.”  With a giggle, she said that I was praying for her like she was some old lady in a nursing home who was dying.

I told her, “Well, truth be told you are dying. And so am I and everyone else.”  The fact is that from the time that a new born baby takes their first breath, they start the road to death. It may be a short road or a long road. Only God knows the number of days that a person has upon the Earth. Job 14:5 reminds us, “You God have decided the length of our lives. You know how many months we will live, and we are not given a minute longer.”

More important than how many days that you have is what you do with those days. Each day is a gift from God and each day has many opportunities for us to be productive not only in the physical realm but the spiritual also. God has a plan and a purpose for each day that He allows you to live on this Earth. No day should be wasted.

Now that does NOT mean that you should work (Either physically or spiritually) every minute of each day and never take time for your family or relax. We should have a balance of work and relaxation. To get out of balance either way is not healthy. If you work too much you will damage your health and the relationships around you. As the old saying goes if you fall dead tomorrow at your job, they will replace you and go on.

On the other end of the scale, if you don’t work enough, you will become lazy – both physically and spiritually and you will go lacking. You will not burn out but you can rust out due to a lack of activity. The Bible has a lot of unpleasant words about being lazy or sluggish.

So the idea is this: You can’t change any of the days that you have already lived. You can learn from the days you have been alive but you can’t change them. So what are you going to do to make sure that the days that you have remaining are going to be the best days of your life? With Jesus in your life, each day is sweeter than the day before and each day draws you closer to Him and closer to your final destination Heaven.

The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 9:27,“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: ”So God has the day of your death on His heavenly calendar somewhere in the galaxy. The question is what about the judgment after your death? You will be judged on how you lived the days that He gave you to live. You will then spend eternity in one of two places – either Heaven or Hell. So live your life to the fullest down here in such a way with Jesus as your savior and then for all eternity you will never die again and there will not be counting any more days.           In Love with Jesus – Gary Mimbs
